Site Review: Lavalife

lavalifeMany people in the U.S. and Canada should recognize the Lavalife name. They started in 1987 as a telephone classified service. Time passed and they grew into a matchmaking and personals empire that offers a myriad of products for singles. Among these products are Click (online magazine), lavalifeMOBILE, lavalifePRIME, and lavalifeVOICE. For the sake of time, we’ll stick to the plain ol’ website for now.

Signing up for the website is quick and very easy. The part that took the longest was having to fill out the 100-character-minimum profile description. With that said, let me tell you that the Lavalife community is a VERY active one. Not five minutes after completing my profile, I received two instant messages from other members. You don’t have to worry about a stale experience on this site.

Lavalife likes to categorize its members according to exactly what they are trying to get out of their experience. There are three categories:

-Dating: for the casual daters.

-Relationship: for people looking for real love.

-Intimate: for sexual relations.

The categorizing simplifies the search process. So if a person looking for a serious relationship does a search, they will not be matched with a person looking only for sexual encounters. This is a very nice feature.

The basic free membership is quite nice. The instant messaging feature is a great way to connect and chat. You can also use the email and flirting features for free. If you’re being really casual about online dating, the free membership will more than satisfy you.

If you’re more serious about getting the most out of your experience and want all of the bells and whistles, then you may want to become a subscriber. A one month membership is $29.99 and a three month membership is $56.97. As always, you have to first join the site to gain access to pricing. Have I yet expressed how annoying that is?

Overall, this is a very spiffy site. It’s attractive, easily navigable, and has a lively community. I think that this place would be best suited for people taking a casual approach to online dating. It’s a very fun and casual atmosphere.
